During the times when Belarusian filmmakers create movies under various restrictions related to immigration, lack of funding, or internal self-censorship, it is crucially important for them to be heard. The Northern Lights Film Festival strives to be a platform and a tribune for the voices of Belarusian directors.
This year's Belarusian competition includes 14 films. Most of the movies are low-budget, but all of them are very honest, viewer-oriented projects with a Belarusian DNA. Every single film is essentially an invitation to recall and discuss our recent past, the present, and the future.
